My name is Theresa. I, with the help of my husband, Mike, have been operating Mountain View Kennels since 1996. Ours is a small family owned kennel. We strive to make your pet feel comfortable and loved while staying with us.
We are located in the Foothills of Western North Carolina. Southwest of Charlotte, NC Southeast of Asheville, NC and North of Spartanburg, SC.
Our home is located 700 feet up the driveway from the kennel, so we are pretty much on site all the time. The big question is - Why on Earth would I want to run a kennel? Years ago I used to work for a veterinarian. Part of my job included looking after the pets that were boarded at the clinic. That’s when I learned that at the vet’s they have other jobs and that boarded animals don’t receive that much attention. It became a dream of mine to eventually have a kennel where I would be able to give the extra attention boarded pets need.
Most pets are not just dogs or cats. They are an extension of our own family. At Mountain View Kennels we will do our best to keep your “child” feeling like a child.
We are State Licensed and do have a Veterinarian on Call. All dogs are required to be current on routine vaccinations, including Bordetella. Cats are also required to be current on all vaccinations, including Feline Leukemia. Please be prepared to show proof of vaccination.
Mountain View Kennels is open year round. We close two weeks of the year for vacation. These two weeks are usually the first week in March and the first week in November. Though we are closed the day of most holidays, we are open for your pets for all holidays.
It is important to find the perfect place for your pet when you are not at home. Your pet needs to be in a safe and comfortable environment. You need this peace of mind. Plan ahead. Mountain View Kennels tends to fill up during summer vacation and holidays.
Our Kennel offers your basic care. We have indoor cages as well as outside runs. We offer three fenced exercise yards (fences are 5′) for your pet to romp in and take care of his/her personal business. Our indoor facility is heated and air-conditioned. Our outside runs are built on a concrete slab. They are 3 1/2′ wide x 8′ long x 6′ high, topped with chain link and then covered by a roof. The sides are protected by shade cloth and there are fans that will run 24/7 during the hottest times. We do not offer suites, but you are welcome to bring your pet’s favorite toys and bedding. We feed Purina Dry dog food, but can feed what your pet is accustomed to if you provide it. We recommend this for those inside dogs with tender systems.
If your pet is on medication this is not a problem. We do charge an additional $2.00 a day if your pet is receiving more that one dose of medication daily. For those older pets with arthritis we have 1′ rubber mats to place under their bedding.
